Kicking it off

Hi everyone!

I'm starting this blog for a class I'm taking this semester at BYU, a business communications class and I've decided to go ahead and record my experiences with school and how I feel about things as the semester goes on. I've been home-schooled most of my life, except for a brief stint in High school my Junior year, so I've been raised to challenge scholastic authority and have maybe a different perspective on education in general.

I've started the first couple days of class now, and I'm taking, in order: New Testament, Information Systems, Business communications, Accounting, and Algebra. My plan is to apply for BYU's accounting program after this year, and my main focus is to do well enough in the pre-requisite courses to get in.

A little about me, I was born in Payson Utah and lived in Provo till I was 8, when my dad's job took us to Katy Texas, a little town on the outside of Houston. I was raised there in a quiet suburban neighborhood and while my family never wanted for food or clothing, we were never rich either. My mom is amazing, I've never seen a person work so hard and accomplish so many things simultaneously. She home schooled 5 children (of which I'm the second) all the way to or through High School, and at the same time kept up the house and sometimes multiple church callings and did it all with energy and enthusiasm. A lot of my opinions and ideologies come from her, and I've taken that framework and I'm creating my own opinions based on what I see in the education system. I'll be making observations during the semester in my classes, and drawing conclusions and writing about how I feel about it. I hope you enjoy the blog !
